Future Is Bright For California Harness Racing
The California Harness Horsemen's Association (CHHA) and Cal-Expo Board of Directors have both approved an agreement between the two parties that will extend harness racing at Cal-Expo through December 21, 2013.The agreement includes two one-year options to be mutually agreed upon that would extend the agreement further until December 19, 2015. A minimum of 140 racing days per year, investment amounts from Cal-Expo to the purse pool to cover specific amounts of overpayments that may occur in any given racing year, an immediate purse increase, early and/or late closers to be contested in the Spring of each year, and an investment of approximately $65,000 in funds previously directed to Cal-Expo from CHHA that will be directed to the horsemen in 2010.
"We are excited about the future of harness racing at Cal-Expo and look forward to providing the best program possible for the fans and the horsemen," said Dave Elliott, Director of Racing. "We're hopeful the racing product continues to attain successes with the aid of the horsemen's participation and innovative concepts," finished Elliott.
